If you're visiting in August you'll be able to enjoy
a really traditional Spanish party at the Almeria Fair which
takes place during the last two weeks of the month. The city
streets become a riot of music, dancing, processions, parades
and bull running. Huge marquees are erected in the fairground
and there's good-natured mayhem and merrymaking round-the-clock.
One
of the great things about Spanish all-night parties is that
they're not usually accompanied by the drunkenness and violence
which mar similar "celebrations" in England and
other north European countries. The only places you tend to
experience those kinds of problems are in the resorts dominated
by foreign visitors!
Other important fiestas take place in Almeria during the
"Semana Santa" Holy Week, in Mojacar which stages
its elaborate Moors and Christians parades in May and in Roquetas
de Mar which celebrates its biggest fiesta in the old town
in September.
The festival of the bonfires of San Juan offers visitors
a spectacular
night show at the beach!. Join the local people on the beaches
of
Roquetas de Mar, and sample the friendly Mediterranean atmosphere
as famillies gather for food and fiesta.
Important religious celebration, with a marvellous maritime
procession
with all the vessels of the area decorated.
Culminating in dancing, fireworks and fiestas.
Ancestral tradition of old groups of fishermen, who gather
from all
over the province of Almeria to eat fish and meat prepared
on beach
fires - especially near the fishing port of Roquetas de Mar...!
